 Stag's Holt Wind Farm October/November 09

E.ON gave local residents a fact-finding tour to Stag's Holt Wind Farm on 4th November 2009. Stag's Holt is sited near Coldham, Wisbech, Cambridgeshire on featureless flat fenland. The windfarm consists of 9 turbines and has been operational since 2007. Hub height is 70 metres with an an overall max height of 100 metres. An adjacent wind farm is operated by another power company. Nearest inhabited buildings are about a mile. We first visited in October 09.

Carno Wind Farm October 09

Carno wind farm in mid-Wales was the largest wind farm in Europe when it came into operation in October 1996. There are 56 turbines, 31.5 metres to hub, with a rotor diameter of 44 metres, giving an overall height of 53.5 metres. There is a recent extension - Carno 2 - with 80 metre high overall turbines. The site is isolated moorland at 400 metres above sea level and several miles as the crow flies from Carno town. It is well away from any habitation.

We visited Carno on in the late afternoon of 18th October 2009

Deeping St Nicholas Wind Farm

The village of Deeping St Nicholas lies on flat agricultural fenland near Spalding in Lincolnshire. Over a mile away from the main part of the village is the wind farm, which consists of 8 turbines with a hub height of 59 metres, and a rotor diameter of 82 metres, giving a max overall height of 100 metres.
About 950 metres from the wind farm is the house occupied by Jane Davis who, along with her husband, has suffered considerable nuisance from the windfarm, to the extent that she has given evidence at wind farm enquiries see Reference Documents.

We visited deeping St Nicholas on the afternoon of 17th October 2009. In the dead flat landscape distances are very deceptive - on consulting our maps we were astounded to discover that we photographed the turbines from a distance of about a mile.
